Capital of Minas Gerais State and 6th biggest city in Brazil. In the past the State was famous for the gold rush and now it is an important economic center for the Country. For foodies, a perfect place to get fat, as they have delicious dishes and sweets, such as Doce de Leite, Queijo Canastra, Pão-de-queijo....and the list goes on. For Craft Beer Lovers, this is a special place with important microbreweries. Check the list below to see where you should go, while you are in this city watching World Cup Games.

So, you love craft beers, you went to Belo Horizonte but you haven't tasted any Wäls Beer. Shame on You! You definitely have to go there! They are the shining star for craft beer in Brazil. They were awarded the Gold Medal with Wäls Dubbel and Silver Medal with Wäls Quaddrupel at World Beer Cup 2014. They have brewed a Saison with sugarcane in collaboration with Garret Oliver from Brooklyn Brewery. Do you need more reasons to visit them?
The brewery is open for visitors every saturdays and you can enjoy the beer directly from the source. Our suggestions are, for sure, Wäls Dubbel (Dubbel, 7.5% ABV) and Wäls Quaddrupel (Belgian Strong Ale, 11%). But Wäls Petroleum (Russian Imperial Stout, 12% ABV) and Saison de Caipira (Saison brewed with Sugarcane, 6.5% ABV) are great choices as well. This is also one of few breweries that produces Bière Brut. You can buy their Wäls Brut in bottle, as well. (And you should visit the room where they are stored).
Carneiro Family runs the brewery and the tasting room, so you will find yourself at a family environment when going there. If you won't be there on weekend, just check our next suggestion, Stadt Jever, you will find Wäls Beers there as well.

This is one of the oldest pub in Belo Horizonte. Established 30 years ago by a German guy who came from the Jever City in Germany, this Pub has this German environment. Now it is owned by the Carneiro family from Wäls, so, you can taste their beer and other guest beers on tap! They also serve great German Dishes (From Jever, maybe?). The house's beer is Stadt Jever, brewed by Wäls (German Pils, 5%).

Botiquin do Antonio
Are you the type of traveler that loves to go to Public Markets? If the answer is "yes", you should visit Mercado Central de Belo Horizonte. In this market there is a small stall named "Botiquin do Antonio" where they serve beers from Cervejaria Backer. The place is really small and crowded, mainly on weekends. You can ask for their Pilsen ( Lager, 4.8% ABV) or Capitão Senra (Amber Lager, 5.3% ABV). Not so sure if they also serve their special series named "3 Lobos" on tap, which are pretty interesting. In special I recommend Bravo (American Imperial Porter aged in Umburama Barrels, 9% ABV) and "Exterminador de Trigo" (Wheat Beer with Lemon Grass, 4.8% ABV). I was also told to have Carne com Jiló (beef with Scarlet Eggplant) as the best dish to pair with the beers.
